ManiSilk FAQ's

Let's talk about ManiSilk.

What is ManiSilk?

ManiSilk is a whipped cuticle balm.  A balm, by definition, is a fragrant ointment used for healing or for direct application to the skin. Balms are typically and traditionally oil based which means they can be greasy or sticky and take too much time to absorb into the skin.  ManiSilk is oil based but because of our ingredients and process, it is not greasy or sticky and does absorb quickly into the skin.

How much do I use?

ManiSilk is concentrated! A very small amount, just a fingertip from your jar, is enough (see below for video tutorial). For extremely dry skin, apply ManiSilk, allow to soak in and reapply.

How often should I use it?

ManiSilk can be used as often as needed.  1-3 times a day is recommended.  It is especially soothing after polish changes, hand washing, exposure to harsh chemicals (after you wash your hands, of course), dish washing, gardening, or anytime your hands have had a hard day!

What's in ManiSilk?

Massage Therapy Grade Soy Wax (Glycine Soja) has antioxidant properties to help skin stay younger and smoother looking.  It helps slow the loss of moisture by acting as a barrier to protect the skin.  Our soy wax is massage therapy grade, dermatologist tested, herbicide & pesticide free, vegan and cruelty free and manufactured in the USA.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (Coco Nucifera) is the first pressing of the coconut. It contains more of the nutrients and fatty acids our skin needs to stay soft and supple. Coconut oil is highly revered in the beauty industry for its ability to absorb quickly into the skin and provide many benefits. It has natural antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties, making it a stable oil with a shelf life of about 1 year. Our coconut oil is certified organic.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil (Limnanthes alba) is extracted from the seeds of an annual flowering herb native to California & Oregon. It is rich in long chain fatty acids and helps replenish dry, damaged, irritated skin.

Glycerin (Kosher, USP Vegetable) is a common ingredient in skin care products because it is an excellent humectant (which means it attracts water from from the air).  It temporarily protects the skin from harmful irritants and loss of moisture by acting as a barrier. Our glycerin is never derived from bio-diesel waste.

Hydrolyzed Pearl Protein contains important amino acids (building blocks for cell production) that help skin & nails maintain elasticity and produce healthy new cells.  Pearl powder has been used in the cosmetic industry for centuries (long before modern science..think Ancient China) and was treasured for its sheen and ability to maintain vibrant, youthful looking skin.  It is an excellent source of calcium and other minerals our skin and nails crave.

Hydrolyzed Silk Protein is another age-old beauty secret. It was coveted by royalty throughout the Ancient world and renowned for its ability to strengthen, tighten, and replenish skin, hair and nails.  Silk protein contains two primary proteins that help build healthy, stronger cells.  It adds a beautiful sheen to skin and nails.  It is readily absorbed and utilized by our bodies.  Silk protein is derived from the cocoon of the silk moth and is NOT considered a vegan product.

Phthalate-Free Fragrance Oil because Magnificent smelling things... it's what we do!

Fragrance oil differs from essential oil in that fragrance oil is a chemical replication of a scent.   We chose to use fragrance oil because of all the amazing smells in the world.

Essential oils cannot duplicate cotton candy or pumpkin spiced latte or caramel corn or apple pie or good clean ozone-y sea breezes or the smell of a garden or a thunderstorm... you get the picture.

Our fragrance oils are phthalate-free and meet the California Proposition 65 guidelines.

ManiSilk is NOT a vegan product

And the rest of the story....

Again, we're back to my sister (can you tell this woman is such an inspiration to me?!) and her love for all things nail related.

After I started developing ManiSand, she offhandedly mentioned that keeping cuticles healthy and moisturized was key to having strong, healthy, beautiful nails. (Check out the photos in Chandelier's World... those are my sister's hands and NATURAL nails!)

Back to the research stage! (one of my favorite past times). I knew I wanted to keep the list of ingredients to a minimum and didn't want any extras or fillers.  Just like ManiSand, I wanted ManiSilk to be concentrated, effective and full of all the good things our nails and cuticles need.

Once I settled on the ingredients, I began a game of Goldilocks and the Three Bears... this one's too gritty, this one's too thick.... oooo, wait, this one is JUST RIGHT.

And there you go!
